10 tips for getting your home ready to sell.

  1. Declutter all closets, you don’t want a buyer to think that there isn’t enough closet space throughout the house.

  2. If the walls are dinged, smudged, painted with dark or dated colors, re-paint with a neutral gray/white colors.

  3. Remove bulky furniture that makes a room feel small.

  4. Declutter and straighten out the basement and garage areas.

  5. Make sure that all lightbulbs are working and give off lots of light. Be sure to clean all light fixtures, cobwebs don’t sell homes.

  6. Shampoo all carpets, and if a carpet is badly stained, replace it.

  7. Freshen up the landscaping around the house, particularly the landscaping around the front walkway area. Curb appeal makes for a great first impression.

  8. Spend the few bucks to have a professional cleaning crew clean the entire house, including windows and moldings.

  9. Remove dark curtains. If it’s a window that needs some sort of privacy barrier, replace it with sheer linen curtains. Again, you want a room to feel spacious, bright and inviting.

  10. Depersonalize the home by removing all if not most of your personal photos. You want a buyer to picture themselves living in there, having someone else’s photos makes that difficult.

As always, consult with your local realtor so that your home is set up and positioned in the best possible way so that you can maximize your profits. Good luck!
